Staying with Jesus forever
Let’s read the entire verse, and then focus in on that last part
John 3:16 (NLT)
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Q. What does it mean to perish?
To die/pass away
Universal fear: death
Loved ones passing away*
Q. Why are people so afraid of death?
What happens after you die?
The Bible’s answer: perishing = eternity separated from God
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Q. What does it mean to “fall short” of something?
Fall short = sin
Sin = missing the mark (archery term)
All people
Romans 6:23a (NLT)
23 For the wages of sin is death
What is a wage?
A price/cost
What are some of the most expensive gifts you have ever received
Jeep
Our sin is expensive; it costs us our life!
Thankfully though, that’s not how the story ends!
Moving along in John 3:16, we see that whoever believes in Jesus “will not perish but will have eternal life.”
Q. Is the idea of living forever something that sounds hard for you to grasp?
For many of us, it is!
But it is something that we have access to by accepting Jesus into our lives
Why does everyone that believe in Jesus have life?
Because God “gave his one and only Son!”
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Jesus paid the wage instead of us
How does it make you feel to know that Jesus loved you enough to die for you?
It’s true! And you can experience life in Him. All you have to do is to “believe” in him by placing your faith and your trust in Him
Briefly share my salvation experience
Have you accepted Christ? If so, thank the Lord!
And once you are saved, you are always saved, so you have no need to fear!
Your challenge: share the message of John 3:16 with your unsaved friends!
But if you haven’t placed your faith in Jesus, what is keeping you from doing that?
We would LOVE to chat with you about what it looks like to accept Jesus
